With the growth of tourism over the last 30 years a special unit has been set up by the Royal Thai Police force to deal with the safety and well-being of tourists. The officers of the Tourist Police wear a distinctive badge on their arm and speak English and some other European languages. They can be called upon in all kinds of situations, such as road traffic accidents, theft, disputes with hotels or shop keepers where
a foreign tourist is
involved. They will act as arbitrators on disputes, and in our experience they do so in an unbiased fashion.
The Tourist Police Headquarters has permitted the Tourist Police to establish the Volunteer Tourist Police Project to help tourists and to provide efficient safety for the life and property of the Tourists.
Mission of Volunteer Tourist Police Project
We provide a culture bridge between foreigners whether tourists or residents and the Thais. We do a lot more than just language translation. If the volunteer is from the same country as the foreigner seeking help, he can emphasize with him and get a better understanding of the situation.
The volunteer police office manned 24 hours a day 7 days a week. A volunteer, even if not currently working, is always on call anytime of the day or night.
We are here to help anyone in need from helping find lost passports to giving directions to people who are lost. We offer what we can and most of the time the people are very thankful they had some one who they could communicate with clearly and who understand their needs.
The duty of Tourist Police is to facilitate and secure tourists’ though out Thailand.
